A tag is an element added to documents or files using HTML, XML, and other markup languages that alters the appearance of material or carries out an activity. An HTML element (container tag) is shown below with its name and attribute displayed in the open tag (start tag) and its name displayed in the close tag (end tag) with a forward slash.
