The -webkit- prefix in CSS is used for CSS attributes that are available to WebKit browsers but are not formally supported by W3C specifications or standard web browsers.

For the purpose of rendering content in the Safari and Chrome browsers, the term "webkit" is used in the CSS syntax. Due to a lack of cross-compatibility, CSS may require the addition of Webkit code to ensure that it renders appropriately on Chrome and Safari.
